Troubleshooting - Receipt printers

Here is a possible error checklist for a receipt printer running either on ethernet or USB.

Here is a possible error checklist for a receipt printer running either on ethernet or USB.

  • Check if the printer is powered on and there are no paper issues.
If not, plug in the power cord and load the paper roll correctly.
  • Check if the printer is connected to the PC via USB or ethernet cables.
Ensure the cable is securely plugged into the printer, PC, or router. You can also try unplugging and reconnecting the cable or using a different port or cable.
  • Check if the PC recognizes the printer and has the correct driver installed.
You can do this by opening the Control Panel and selecting Devices and Printers. You should see your printer listed under Printers. If not, you may need to install or update the driver from the printer manufacturer’s website.

POS-ONE Recommends the Citizen CT-S310II Thermal printer. Click here to go to the driver download page. For driver installation, click here to access the Microsoft Windows printer guide.
  • Check if the printer can print a test page.
You can do this by right-clicking your printer icon and selecting Printer Properties. Then, click on the General tab and click on Print Test Page. If the test page prints successfully, the printer is working properly. If not, you may receive an error message or code on the printer’s screen or the PC’s screen. Refer to the printer’s user manual or the manufacturer’s website for troubleshooting tips based on the error message or code.
  • Check if the printer is configured to use the correct connection type and port.
You can do this by right-clicking your printer icon and selecting Printer Properties. Then, click the Ports tab and check the port that matches your connection type (USB or Ethernet). If not, you may need to add a new port or change the existing one.
  • If the printer runs on ethernet, check if the printer and the PC are on the same local network.
You can do this by using the IP Scanner (Attached to this guide) or by checking the printer's IP address and the PC. The PC's IP address can be found by opening the Network and Sharing Center and clicking on the connection details. The first three groups of IP address numbers should be the same for both the printer and the PC. If not, you may need to change the network settings of the printer or the PC or contact your network administrator or internet service provider for assistance.
